Create Your First Survey

If you're new to Pathlight, here's how you can get started in under 5 minutes.

1. To begin, enable the survey extension on the Thank You and Order Status pages. You can do this by clicking on Enable in step 4 of the Quick Start Guide card, found on Pathlight's dashboard.

Alternatively, navigate to Settings > Checkout in your Shopify admin.

You can also follow this step-by-step guide on how to enable the survey extension.

2. From Checkout, click on Customize - this will take you to the Theme Editor.

3. From the top dropdown, select Thank You. In the left sidebar click on the Sections icon, then on Add block and select Pathlight Survey. Repeat this process on the Order Status page.

4. Make sure you Save the changes before returning to the app.

5. In the Pathlight app, navigate to Surveys and click on Create a new survey.

6. You will most likely want to start from one of the available templates, however for this guide we'll Start from scratch, so we can go through the full setup.

7. Select a suitable name for the survey, then click on Add question to add your first question.

8. From the popup select Single choice and click on Add question to add a single choice question to the survey.

9. In the Question field, add your question (e.g. "Where did you hear about us?"). Then click on Add option to add the answer choices you'd like to offer (e.g. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X/Twitter)

10. Click on Show advanced settings to reveal more settings.

11. Check Include other option to allow customers to provide their own answer.

12. From Targeting, select New customers to only display the survey to new customers.

13. From Channels, select the channels where you'd like to display the survey (e.g. Online Store)

14. From Translations you can add translations for your survey in all the languages you have enabled in your store. By default, the translations are automatically generated using Pathlight AI, but you can manually override any inaccuracies. To start click on Add language.

15. From the popup dropdown select the first language (e.g. French) and click on Add language.

16. The automatic translation, powered by Pathlight AI, is being generated. This can take up to 2 minutes. Please don't close the popup until the translation is ready.

17. You can manually edit the translations for all words and phrases.

18. This first survey is ready to be published. Click on Activate to turn it on.

19. At the top, click on Save to finish.

20. You can now preview the survey in the theme editor.

21. Or place a test order to see the survey live on your Thank You page.

22. Back in the app navigate to Analytics to see all of the stats of your surveys, including the response rate, the revenue distribution by answer, AOV, timeline and more.

23. You can also find the individual Answers, filter them by survey, question or customer and even export them. The answers can also be synced with your favorite integrations, including Klaviyo, Shopify Flow and more.
