In Pathlight, you have 16 types of question pages, one of them being dropdown questions. The dropdown questions are pages on which customers can select their answers from a dropdown menu bar.
Whether you started a new survey from scratch or from a template, you can start adding questions. Here you can learn about how to use templates and how to start a post-purchase survey from scratch.
Adding a dropdown question
You can use the Add questions button to start selecting from Pathlight's list of question types. In this example, we will add a dropdown question.
Once you've added it you will see a page like below showing a starting empty preview on the right and the menu in which we will customize the question on the left.
You can start adding the question, writing it in the placeholder Question, and also add a short description, which will show right under the question. For this particular type of question, you can also include a placeholder, which will be the text written on the dropdown bar.
If you don't write anything, the first answer in Options will be shown. In the next step, you will see how to add options to the dropdown menu.
Adding answers and answer options
To add answers in the dropdown, you can use the Add options button to add as many as you need. This opens a new line for entering a new option, and it will be immediately accessible in the drop-down preview.
The icon you see next to the answer can add logic to the answer selection. What this means is that if someone selects this answer, you can set the next step to be any of the questions that you have in the survey, including the default next one or end the Survey.

Advanced settings
Now we can move to the Advanced settings, which you can access by clicking the Show advanced settings link.
The first option in this set of settings can customize where to go next from this answer submission and it works as any logic tree choosing if you want to go to the next default question, to a specific one in the quiz or end the survey. The second one, with multiple question types in the survey, is adding another option label. You can write a label for it and a placeholder for the input bar.
Under this you can also see the Other option is required option which makes the input obligatory if someone selects "Other" as their answer.
The randomize options are a great feature that will randomize the order of the answer for each new session to avoid having your data influenced by a bias coming from people tending to select mostly the first answer.
The next option is "An answer is required" meaning you can't go to the next question unless an answer is provided and given in the input bar. You next have the option to "Auto-submit when answer is selected" which means survey takers don't have to click the submit button to go to the next step. There is also the option here to only display once per customer and avoid showing the same survey questions to repeat customers every time this survey can be triggered.
The "Next action" is part of the logic tree of the survey in which you can choose where to go next after an answer to this question is provided. You can choose to go by default to the next question, to choose any other question from the suvey or end the survey.
You can also update the Submit button text and choose the style of the button and alignment. Below we've selected the button to fit just the text it contains and align it centrally. The Default value you see under the button label can be either the built-in Pathlight text we show, or you can customize it globally in the survey in Settings. You can check this article on the global setup for Settings to learn more about global set elements.
The last 2 options give you the option to either Tag customers or Tag orders. This means that when enabled, a tag will be added to the order in Shopify with the answer the survey taker has selected. You can select for each of them a specific prefix to identify the tags more easily.
